i love bees

i have been following what microsoft/bungie/halo 2/elan lee have been doing on ilovebees.com.

they have definitely created a great tone for the game. they have established quickly that they are not out to trick people into believing this is real - a la sega's beta-7.com.

they have really delved into the depths of the online psyche. they have created a character called dana. her photo on the site is innocent but provocative to the easily provoked online male personality. keep in mind that when your identity is not known people experiment with anonymity. anyway, the character they have developed is not overtly sexual but the undertones are there. the icing on the cake is that she is playing the modern day damsel in distress. she is asking all the boys for help... you only have to look at her blog to see how everyone is responding. 'dana, i would only be too pleased to help'

this is the modern day version of impressing the girls.

suddenly it is becoming a race to be 'the man'. which is such a great idea. it really pits person against person in the online world. the challenge is to be the first. to be the first to impress dana and show up all the lightweights. the players know that there is going to be a clue or an answer buried in a very cool way... making the person who discovers it a mini celebrity online....

this story line so far demonstrates a very in depth knowledge of the potential market. it is by now way a mass market initaitve... but it will definitely reach the people who are usually the loudest personalities in blogs, message boards and chat rooms. the people who dont like not knowing everything. they are constant googlers and when they are in the game shop, talking to friends at college or at work or online they want to be equipped with that piece of information that makes them one better.... "oh really... yeah but i found a secret link on the honey page and put it together with an 1800's poem'
