Gmail - Google Mail... Fun.

its something about google that reminds me of hotmail in the early days. they seem to have the same intuitive spirit.

google launched an email service a while ago. the big selling points are that you get 100MB free space and you can search your mail just like you search google. yahoo and hotmail have responded by upping the amount of space they give you for free.

before i get to the fun stuff, one freaky thing they do is that they run your email through a google filter and they have google ads on the side of your email based on the words in your email. thats a little a spooky. if i were them i would have brought that on later... but hey, they are public now so they have all the revenue pressures that go along with it.

so anyway... using it... they just know how to make stuff where you feel like you are on the edge of whats going on. first of all, i was sent an invite from google to use it. its still in beta testing... then they give me invitations to send to other people. they are very intelligently making it an insider thing.

anyway... also check out labs.google.com - they have all the stuff they are testing. also did you know they have pretty much launched a localised service - so if you want a number/address of something write the name and then a comma and then the city or suburb. works well.
